What roof suits an interwar semi in Ashton upon Mersey?
Many interwar semis have hipped roofs with clay or concrete tiles. If the original tiles are sound, repairs and re-bedding may be enough. If many are failing, it makes sense to strip the lot and re-tile over fresh battens and underlay. We match original clay tiles where possible, or suggest suitable alternatives that keep the look of the street intact.
Do you cover Brooklands and Sale Moor?
Yes, we are in both regularly. Brooklands has larger Victorian and Edwardian homes with slate roofs, while Sale Moor includes interwar semis and terraces. Both keep us busy with repairs, re-covering, chimneys, fascias and flat roofs, and we organise access on busy streets so scaffold and skips cause as little disruption as possible for neighbours.
Do homes near the canal and the Mersey need more roof maintenance?
Homes near water can stay damper, encouraging moss and algae on north-facing roof slopes. That growth traps moisture, lifts tiles and chokes gutters. We clear it by hand, check the gutters and flashings, and can apply a treatment to slow regrowth. A yearly gutter clean protects walls and fascia timbers from overflow and saves bigger repairs later.
How quickly can you respond to emergencies?
For genuine emergencies in Sale, which means active leaks, storm damage or anything structural, we aim to be with you within two to four hours, day or night. Across the rest of Sale, M33 it depends on distance and how many storm calls are in the queue. During working hours there's no call-out charge; out of hours a fixed fee applies and is deducted from the repair. Ring 07462 150 527.
Do you provide free quotes?
Yes. We visit, look at the roof properly and give you a written, itemised quote with no obligation and no pressure. We don't quote from the pavement or over the phone for anything we haven't seen.
What areas do you cover?
We're based in Sale and cover the whole of Sale, M33 plus the surrounding towns and villages. For larger jobs we travel further across Greater Manchester.
Are you insured?
Yes, with public liability and employer's liability insurance covering roofing and building work. We'll send the certificates with any quote on request.
What guarantee do you offer?
A workmanship guarantee on every job, backed by the manufacturer's warranty on the materials used, which for membranes, tiles and flat roof systems is typically ten to twenty-five years or more. The documents come with the quote.
Do I need to be home during the work?
Not for external work, as long as we have access to the garden and somewhere to set up. For anything involving the loft or inside the house, yes, or someone who can let us in. We agree the arrangements before we start.
How long does a roof replacement take?
A typical semi-detached or terraced roof in Sale takes five to ten working days from strip to finish, with the scaffold up a few days either side. Larger roofs and those with chimney rebuilds take longer. You get a programme with the quote.
Can you work in bad weather?
Within limits. Light rain is fine for most work; we won't strip a roof with heavy rain forecast, lay flat roof membranes on a wet deck, or work at height in strong wind. The house is always left weathertight at the end of the day. Emergency make-safe work goes ahead in almost any weather.
Do you handle insurance claims?
We provide the dated photographs, plain-English report and itemised quote your insurer needs, and we'll speak to the loss adjuster directly if you'd rather. The claim itself has to come from you as the policyholder, and we'll be honest about whether the damage looks like storm or wear.
What payment methods do you accept?
Bank transfer, card and cash. On larger jobs we agree staged payments in the quote, with the final payment on completion. We never ask for full payment up front.
Do I need scaffolding?
For most two-storey roof work, yes, and it's included in the quote. Many repairs, roofline jobs and bungalow work are done from towers or roof ladders, and chimney work is sometimes cheaper from a cherry picker. We choose the access that's safe and economical.
How do I know if my roof needs replacing?
Repairs every winter, slates slipping across the whole roof rather than in one patch, daylight or widespread staining in the loft, and a sagging ridge or slope all point to a roof at the end of its life. A single slipped slate or a leak at the chimney doesn't. We'll tell you honestly which yours is; most roofs we look at in Sale need a repair, not a replacement.
